The general advice to clean curtains "every few months" was written for a generic household in a generic climate. Indian households are not generic. Bengaluru's monsoon humidity, Mumbai's year-round coastal dampness, Delhi's winter air quality, and Chennai's relentless heat create very different conditions for what accumulates in curtain fabric and how quickly it accumulates. A curtain in a Mumbai apartment near a main road accumulates a very different mix of pollutants, moisture, and allergens than the same curtain in a Jaipur home in December.
